The department has organized safe Motherhood programme in collaboration with Vinakaya Mission Nursing College.World Breast feeding week was also celebrated.The staff of Vinayaka Mission nursing College Mrs.Srideviand Mrs.Rajigave special lectures.

Ms.D.Brightypresented a paper on Type II Diabetes at the International Conference on Technological Advances in super foods for Health Care-ICTASH-2013 and has been awarded Second Prize for oral presentation organized by IIFANS,New Delhi at Pondicherry University.

Breast feeding awareness week was conducted in collaboration with Mother Theresa Government Nursing Training Institute.Talk,Folk talk,villupattu,demonstration and dramas were conducted.

Oratorical competition on breast feediong was conducted by Vinayaka Mission Medical College and two of the Home Science studentsIrfana Farveenof III B.Sc., and Lalitha Kumariof II B.Sc., won prizes.

A field trip to create awareness was conducted by the Home Science students to the fisher folk households of Kilinjalmedu Village under the guidance ofMrs.Rajiny. The villagers were interviewed and the leaflets were distributed and counselling was conducted.The students were taken for a one day educational tour to WCC,Chennai.

The department in collaboration with the Silk Mark Organization of India organized a consumer awareness programme on Silk Mark label.The session was completed by a demonstration and talk by the Silk mark Officials.
